The Electrical Double Layer and Its Structure
At any electrode immersed in an electrolyte solution, a specific interfacial region is formed. This region is called the double layer. The electrical properties of such a layer are important, since they significantly affect the electrochemical measurements. In an electrical circuit used to measure the current that flows at a particular working electrode, the double layer can be viewed as a capa...
متن کاملElectrochemical Thin Films at and above the Classical Limiting Current
We study a model electrochemical thin film at DC currents exceeding the classical diffusion-limited value. The mathematical problem involves the steady Poisson–Nernst–Planck equations for a binary electrolyte with nonlinear boundary conditions for reaction kinetics and Stern-layer capacitance, as well as an integral constraint on the number of anions. At the limiting current, we find a nested b...
متن کاملSome Consideration on Double Layer Structure in Plasma Assisted Nitriding of Austenitic Stainless Steel
Low temperature plasma assisted nit riding treatments of 316 stainless steel produce a complex layer constituted by tow different metastable f.c.c. solid solution denoted ( γ N1 and γ N2 ). About the formation of these double layers, different hypothesis was proposed in the literature. For verifying these hypotheses, the effects of differentes conditions such as nit riding temperature, cleaning...
متن کاملThe electric double layer structure around charged spherical interfaces.
We derive a formally simple approximate analytical solution to the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for the spherical system via a geometric mapping. Its regime of applicability in the parameter space of the spherical radius and the surface potential is determined, and its superiority over the linearized solution is demonstrated.
متن کاملAsymmetry and decoherence in a double-layer persistent-current qubit
Superconducting circuits fabricated using the widely used shadow evaporation technique can contain unintended junctions which change their quantum dynamics. We discuss a superconducting flux qubit design that exploits the symmetries of a circuit to protect the qubit from unwanted coupling to the noisy environment, in which the unintended junctions can spoil the quantum coherence. We present a t...
